Its never worth, cz its cheaper to get these items separately by trading later on when it becomes possible (after august, 31th, afair).
10 dollars you're getting all that though, hrm. Honestly, everything looks good, the music pack, the desert map, the sets, the emoticons.... Weather effects...couriers, taunts.. i like them all. lol
I don't think you'll be able to get everything for $10 after, but you may be able to get everything you want for less, cus a lot of it isn't that cool. Emoticons? yey I guess?
Only thing you have missed out on is extra points from qualifier matches but who predicts those right anyway?
I bought it for fun. If you are really looking to make money, forget it. Last year I predicted that S4 would win the 1v1 and I bragged to my friends when I was right. It's like going to a football game and buying a program.
I gave my irl bro money to give me the compendium sets the rest I am going to buy on the market.
it doesn't matter if it's worth it or not. the sets are cool and you're supporting valvo aka: dota2.

Well.. Personally i think that its worth the price. Upgrading it is not worth, but buying absolutely yes. First of all u get Immortal Chests.
Everytime u open the chest u have a possibility to get a golden item, which will be later able to be sold for a lot of dollars. Besides new immortals add nice animations to your favourite heroes. New weapons for Magnus, AM or Leschrak are really nice.
In addition u can complete challenges and get ordinary item sets which are usually 3 dollars each.
The only benefit from getting compendium earlier, is completing compendium challenges to increase its level. But this challenges aint ez and give only a slight amount of compendium points.
it is worth it.
BUT only if you enjoy dota.
It gives you more objectives when playing, quests to do, more heroes you are encouraged to try
and rewards you for following the pro gaming scene
And hey, at the end of the day it is only 10 dollars. Other games require you to pay upwards of 50 to get a similar standard and even then they have only a limited hours of playability
Are you looking for the steam market value of the items you receive from the compendium to cover the cost of the compendium?
If yes, don't buy it because it's unlikely enough for you to cover the cost unless you lucked out big time (eg. you get both the very rare golden bonus items for luna and AM from the Immortal Chest 1 & 2 that comes immediately with the purchase of the compendium).
However, the compendium gives you enough goodies in terms of untradable goods such as an untradable TI5 effigy and showcase gallery trophies (from completing challenges and stuff) as well as things like teleportation/fountain effects (although it's only for a few months).
It's great for a player who just wants to enjoy the game.
