Dota 2 low hero pool? in General Discussion

Just checking my own profile and realized I play like around 26 heroes actively. Or just 26 heroes with or more than 20 wins. Meaning out of 107 dota heroes only 1/4 of them are even considered. 39 heros or 38 heroes above axe has a higher than 50% winrate. Only 8 heroes with KDA higher than 3.0.

What do you guys think? the current meta too limited?

well dota has been around for like 10 years, for people like me who have been playing it for a long time we understand which heroes we are awful with and just avoid them lol

These are mostly self-limitations, not results of a bad hero balance.

If people for example see a pro player succesfully playing a hero that is generally overlooked in pub games, they tend to try him themselves. This alone can eventually lead to a shift in the meta, making the hero suddenly popular (say hello Elder Titan).

My advice is to be open to all heroes and not concentrate on a few. This might result in a lower MMR than you could have, but it is definitely more fun. Well, at least for me.

I do not think it is so much as people are copying pros -see chen- but that that people play what gets them the best results and pro players will also do that

ive got less than that :D!
in my case its not cause the meta is limited or because i suck with the rest! its because i am too dependant on my allies performance.....thus increasing the uncertainty on my impact on the game and resulting in unneeded losses. i dont rly care as long as i get better buuuuuut i wont even play the game properly (thx tteammates) so its just a waste of time... no reason to play that shit....also the reason i ruin...games are not worth playing past a certain point

              Hey Purge,

I agree with Socram. I've been opening my doors the month of january and revisiting heros I hadn't played in over a year. It did ding me on MMR but was worth exploring some new options. Now after being more comfortable with a few heros I can add Wraith king, Medusa and pudge to my arsenal of heros I can chose now.

P.S. Next time I try them out I will probably do an all pick "find a match" without the MMR so I don't tank myself by 500 points! Ouch! (PPS its fun to smoke people after tanking your rating though and building it back up.)

Most of people from dota 2 plays majority using only 1 hero for not lose.

Nah that's normal. It's impossible to play all the dota heroes evenly, you'd have like 10 games on each. Oh well shit you have 2700+ games, you'd have a bit more than that but you get my point, for your ~20 games with a hero isn't a lot, for me ~8 games with a hero isn't a lot, it's natural to focus on ones that you are drawn to for whatever reason.

Hero pool of 5-10 is plenty if you're training one role.

                    Wink

                      meta =/= good heroes

Guess who's not in the meta but is awesome? Undying.

You should know at least 6 heroes per role and you're fine.

                      Vaikiss`742.

                        many heroes are situational

some other are just not used in pubs or w/e so yeah

                        Faded

Yes, unfortunately people can't think for themselves, so it's a little less creative than it could be.

                          Hopeless

mostly self limitations based on the roles you like to play aka support/mid/carry etc.

also, many of us play our best heros on out main account and then dick around with any hero on a smurf.
