Did I boast?
I know a lot of people who never watched me play a game are calling me trash/noob/etc, so I find it quite necessary to notify them from time to time that I'm not as bad as you would like to have it.
I usually never boast, as I don't care about other players Skill, however if I feel like I'm treated unfairly, I will mention it.
Btw, of course mid players have a higher ranking, since they have a higher impact on their matches.
I am not targeting anyone here, I just think people need to check their ego's as a likeable person willing to learn with a lower rank is better than a high skill twat with a private profile because they feel that 4k or below would not give them the leeway to talk down to others.
Outworldzilla, yours must be decently good as you seem to play a lot of mid :) I would assume.
whether you played with/or against them doesn't mean jack shit because the MM is creating games with massive skill differences.
Just look at the last match on this account, my internal MMR would have been at least 1000 less than the opposing 5 stack.
You can get anything in your matches, retards queue into first page games every now and then, which we have seen quite a number of times, and you can look through pros profiles and see numerous matches with idiots on their team and matched against them. Its all luck.
If you have a 4k rating, its not surprising to see someone with a 5k rating in your game, heck, I wouldn't be surprised if someone with a mid 3k rating was in a game where players had 5k rating. You would be right to say that this shouldn't be the case, but currently, it is.
I really don't feel the need to hide a profile, there's actually nothing to hide.
Hiding a profile probably indicates some sort of fear of feeling inferior, but i am no medic or psychologist so i cant know for sure.
All in all this is just a game, i find the rating an additional tool to compare yourself to other but ofcourse i am not saying its a good tool, there's still improvement to be made.
That a 150 games is a good buffer for NEW smurf accounts. But the sad part is the average smurf has like 3 accounts and about 300-700 games on each account.
5K is attainable considering my friend has a lower winrate of 49%, but stacks with good friend and wins harder games. His www.mydotaskill.com before it was revamp recently didn't show that much higher skill sets much too. I mean it was 1100s when everybody was 1300-1600. This is before the MAJOR revamp that happened this week on that website. He got a solo rating of 4700.
So Imagine someone with 53-60% winrate and stacks 80% of the time. Playing mid or carry heroes exclusively would easily net 5k-6k.
There are good reasons to hide your profile, for example if you get tired of that comment about your match history that you get in the beginning of every game.
but again about the targeting people....
People feel that the dota2 community is watching them constantly and they have to play to a certain level they feel that community wants them to live up to and is routing for them. Well, I am pretty sure that almost 100% of the players on this forum couldn't care dick what the others rating is. I will play with someone with 5k or 2k rating it really doesn't matter, it didn't before why should it now.
Its like "oh yeah I won vs a pro" or "I suck :/ I lost a game now I am stuck on 5k rating". You know who else does that? 12 year old girls on facebook who are fishing for compliments and acceptance from people who they feel care about them deeply when in reality to each his own game and no one gives two shits.
100% sure you peeps are just mad you cant verify how big your epeen is...........I dont set my stuff to private but I can understand why people do. Never has a game gone like this
random trash talker: O my bad you are 5XXX I guess I should listen to you because you prob know better
Unfortunately MMR range can vary as much as +/- (~1000), it's a good idea to restart your queue if you've been waiting for about 3 - 5 minutes.
Otherwise you're risking playing with people who's out of your league. Most frustrating games usually have wide MMR spread.
One day Valve will introduce MMR range filter, mark my words! :)
i really have no idea why would anyone do this
but maybe i'm just weird and not fit to live in this world
"One day Valve will introduce MMR range filter" we can only hope. Meanwhile we all have to cancel and re-que or get impatient and suffer the consequences.
There are people who have enough fans that they have to hide in private, stats off, changing names, smurfs, etc... There are not very many people like that, but it is a legitimate problem for a handful of people... mostly well known pros.
@relentless, not they don't. All of alliance have active accounts, more than half of na'vi and DK have active accounts. A lot of pros have multiple accounts because they've changed teams or whatever, meracle has 3-4 accounts (at least) that he has changed between primarily because he has switched teams. The reasons that these people would hide their information has nothing to do with them having lots of fans. Some of them don't know or don't care for sites like this (if it was an opt-out system you would have a point, but its opt-in).
No sane person would reasonably hide their stats for the reasons that you have mentioned, and the only thing they do is turn their steam on private to avoid getting bombarded with friend requests, thats it.
It's been quite obvious that MMR is sorted in player color order, so this is getting really weird.
Blue > Teal > Purple etc
1. Not sure why Outworldzilla immediately assumed the post was about him
2. Pretty sure blunt @ fnatic posted a screen shot of his rating.
3. I understand peoples decision to hide their ranking numbers, but it causes a lot of frustration.

@ Hope you played these matches right after the other with the same friend. In the first you are a "lower" color. In the 2nd you are a "higher" color. Did you pass him in MMR right then?
I noticed this aswell. more people have gone into profile mode since the ranking, dunno why so many people care.
Generally from my experience, and as also Concede said, the colors override depending your position while you queue with friends
Otherwise it might mean something but i am really not sure
Party leader in a 5 stack is Blue or Pink. There is no such thing as MMR color organization.
@Relentless
It's pretty likely that it is the case.
We can look for evidence by watching top live matches, blue / pink tend to have 5500~ and orange / brown would have 4500~5000. And yes, teal and etc all lines up properly.
@havoc its more than that. players are colored according to the order in which the joined the party.
how do you think people do those planed 5 picture party things.
i got 4700 i think its very low for me, i blame my support phase
tho everyone knows me > rest
so im ok with it

So I have noticed a number of people boasting about 5k + rating and other such nonsense. Then I am starting to notice one by one a lot of other profiles are going private and not wanting anyone, including friends to see their rating.
Should it really matter what rating you are as that does not directly dictate if you are a good player or not. Also the whole console command thing, lets be honest a lot of you edited your numbers to make it appeal more to the community. I think we should try as much as possible to avoid the ranking system becoming a platform for boasting or witch hunting noobs or people of a lesser ranked number than us.
I have noticed a few things....
> People saying their MMR rank is about 5K when I have recent games played with them and mine is just barely 4K
> Mid players actually have a higher ranking than most generic all-rounder players.
> If you are finding that your score is low and you would like to get it higher, muscle through, or make a new account.
I am all for the ranking and I think its great that Valve are trying here, I just really don't want to see it get out of hand.
