you must be pretty bad with invoker if you think aghanims is a waste of money........
i usually have a combo set up, if im going quas wex i have tornado and emp, if quas exort i have spirits walking with me cold snap and sunstrike. wex exort i have tornado with sunstroke, then invoke meatball and deafening blast. and when running aroun i have them on wex of course.
Aghanims is only helpful on Invoker if you are good enough to use it. This means: do you find that during the first 2 seconds of the fight...do you find that you have cast 3 spells and really wish you could invoke again to cast a 4th rather than waiting another 3 seconds? If you are not that good...then there are other things that give better stats for the money.
Honestly only a tiny handful of the best Invokers in the world are good to enough to actually use Aghanims correctly.
I dissagree with relentless that aganims is only helpful if u know what are u doing. Actually if ur a bad invoker for example, or missclick some spell u can fastly correct the mistake with aganims. If not within that period of time (5 secounds) so many things can happen if u don't have the correct spell u meant to have.
I would prefer to use combo spells, then I would use other spells based on situation.
here I agree with KORD , Aghanims is nice for both good and bad invoker.

thus why i said holden is feeding with invoker
to prove my point,

3 items to win the game. not promoting myself, but, i can say for sure i utilize aghanim's quite well
^^Very good points I had not considered. I don't play invoker and so I missed the practicality of it. You are right fixing a misclick could be possible. Sometimes 2 sec is not to late and 5 sec is pretty much always to late in a teamfight. So I guess ordinary invoker players could make use of it as well.
^
true. sometimes people do misclick during heated moments, 2 seconds allow enough time to fix spells.
so scepter is definitely not a waste of money.
^
i cant do well without scepter :P
normally i get cyclone then grind scepter. then only dagger
invokers full potential is made even more with the use of sceptre, with 10 skills in 16 seconds, if timed even half well will already have a huge impact on the enemy team,a very simple and easy example with aghanims at level 17 is as the following:
tornado>meteor>invoke deafening blast>meteor cast> cast defeaning> invoke ice wall and cast it on stunned enemies> invoke forge spirits> invoker cold snap> attack 1 enemy in ice wall and cold snap the other> emp their asses> finish off with a euls and sunstrike
this is a very common skill spam which is at the same time extremely effective, however invoker should never be played in a fixed way, he must adapt and use the correct skills to counter the current situation, might it be focusing down an out of control alchemist or draining the low mp doom to prevent his doom cast, or simply jus adding more damage to the fight, you never know.
^ tornado > emp > meteor > blast > ice wall > whatever the fuck is master race (obviously only fucking possible with lvl 5-7 quas)
What many people dont realize is you might not have the ideal spells invoked right before the engage.
E.g. u wanna do a Tornado/Meteor/Blast combo, without a agha u need 13 secs to prepare this (2 secs floating assumed) while only 4 secs with agha. A 2 sec cd is amazing to play with. And there's a reason why this item has 62% winrate on invoker.
In relation to what OP is asking, I usually leave it at Sunstrike / Forge Spirits.
Forge spirits are important to cast before the engage, while sunstrike is really strong esp when someone attempts a solo kill.
Im reminded again today why Agha is so important on invoker

always have the combo in ur mind, try having it before engaging into a fight, like i usually get tornado + meteor, and then quickly invoke Blast after using the tornado+meteor, then qqer and use ice wall
i usually his fire spirits every while for pushing only, and sometimes using alactricity on the wagon
spirits i agree should always be up! nice pointer there! that -1 armor per hit will do wonders when your enemies shrug them off thinking how puny they are, before they know it they got - armor lol
U can get a kill on a squishy support like rubick, just let the spirits hit and use cold snap from max range, then sunstrike him, Works most of the time..

when u get a scepter ,
do you :
randomly swap spells when running around
spamming qwe randomly
trying to swap into combo spells
(eg : tornado -> meteor -> blast)
(tornado -> ice wall -> meteor -> blast)
etc etc
