1. dont pick sniper
2. l2p
3. dont pick sniper
4. fuck supports who needs them lets pick sniper
5. sniper is not a mid hero
6. nice mask of madness brah on hero that has no escape mechanism and is squishy as fuck probably with team that has no communication with each other and no wards to know wheres the enemies
DK, CK can go commenders late game, sniper pick was bad, u should have picked some real mid hero, like WD, AA, qop, all these with high AoE, as u lack some, only DK got an AoE nuke..
Vaikiss, dont be harsh on every guy in this forum, i dont think u suddenly bcame a gd player, a human improves step by step, and not born perfect..
well, they can mid, and they lacked AoE heroes, so threw them, didnt think of it,
ok then
Bat, Brew, kunkka, storm, TA, Invoker..
and dota got so much diversity, so u can go mid with almost any hero, ANY HERO i mean..
i went mid once with anti-mage, as non wanted mid, and i was against zues, got many lvls of speel shield and won the lane..
First pub, any hero can mid.
On topic; You vsed SB mid
Your line up was needing another range hero but not a effin sniper unless you are fucking amazing with him which you ain't so. You had an axe mid-game to start fights but early game - roaming a QoP would of bee nice with rune whoring and the blink ability.
You shouldn't of picked another late game carry with DK/CK if they under proform that is their fault atleast you played your role which would of been another support or a roaming mid like QoP/PotM/Storm. blah blah
sniper used to be a great pick for mid, but not so much anymore for good reasons.
Im not going to be like the others who keep stating it's the wrong pick, because there are so many parts to improve on.
Firstly, 1v1 against a SB is really hard, there is no reason to try and harass him cuz even after 3mins of harassing him he can just salve up once like its no big deal, he is that thick.
Second, last hitting against an SB is also hard. SB base damage is crazy good along with that skill of his, so your skill build should be headshot + (shrapnel/stats). To curb with the damage problem, what i would have done is buy phase boots. I'm not saying i like phase boots, but 24 damage in early game can give lots of farm.
Thirdly, your item build is bad like vaikiss said. The first item u should rush is shadow blade. Even if the opponent team has slardar, the range for his ulti isn't that long, and should give ample time for u to dodge him.
what the previous guy said. But i wouldve still harrased the shit out of him and a particular move of mine. GET WARDS and put in the hill so that you can harras as soon as he is getting closer making you have a good deal of both farm and harras.
Hmm interesting comments from all. I think it goes without saying that at this tier in match making, there would be few who are godly with any one hero (let alone more), so I don't think I need to clarify that I am not a god-tier sniper.
The main thing that drove me to sniper was it being range, and a hero that I have done well with more often than not as mid. Like people mentioned I could have gone any other range hero (At the time I saw we didn't have a support... but couldn't think of a mid support). Maybe I should try QOP if my team ends up like this again. I could only influence 2 ppl on my team (who ended up randoming anyway), the other two were randoms that would not communicate. >_>
Some other interesting choices from this thread are AA and WD for mid. *_*
As for item build and skill build. I love my extra range and keeping my mana free for snipes. I also usually always go for helm of dominator... but the game was already lost. It made sense at the time to increase ASPD as you shouldn't really need to be running when you are in your own base.
I always go Shadow blade after treads or mask... so I should also try rushing SB in the future to see how that lets me gank.
aa is such a waste in mid cuz he reaches his peak at level 6 and from then hes just more exp/gold for the enemies after killing him wd is fine for me but again supports in mid is not the best idea maybe except rubick or gyrocopter(used as support with maxed barage 1 lvl stun and ulti)
^ agreed and there are such better picks mid over a WD.. unless you are either throwing or trolling.
Also you should only ever go sniper MoM if you go sometihng like rapier when fucking around only time you'll see me go MoM is when I have a rapier or a booster in my team such as BS/Magmus
Judging by the shitbad farm by everyone in the game, it looks like a pretty low level game. Don't pick Sniper if you can't farm, especially against heroes that are going to make you feel pain, either with long range nukes, or the ability to close in on you very quickly. Sniper is a hero that can only function when he can stay safe yet still attack, as well as having ZSMJ like map awareness. That's pretty much why he sucks balls though, because itis only in very rare situations where this can happen. ie. don't pick him. And don't buy a MoM if you are already getting facerolled. Alch has his 775 or whatever range stun, pair that with his acid - armor, slardar's amplify damage, WR 800 range shackle (?) and long ass powershot, kotl blast and a SB that can close down on you in 2 seconds? Yep, no chance, even if you farmed you wouldnt win this game.
No, this is difficult because this loss wasn't due to you alone, obviously, tbh your whole team lineup sucks pretty bad. You have 4 heroes which require farm, and you don't have a single solid support hero (visage isn't that great defensively unless in a tri-lane or something).
You have 2 single target stuns, decent ones at that, but 0 team fight. You have way too much enemy damage coming in from Alchemists acid spray and amplify damage, meaning every fight you take you all have negative armor, and to top that off a kotl blast is putting you all down really low.
Your team lacked turtling power, something really needed by at least 2 heroes to keep up raxes at least relatively well. I mean you can imagine trying to rax against the radiant side in a more even game, try getting past endless kotl blasts + power shots + acid sprays, its not easy, even if you are miles ahead.
Which brings me to my last point, the radiant has a shitload of mobility. Alchemist with phase and rage is moving at about 470ish MS (max with SB aura?), Slardar at max MS, SB at max MS, WR is capable of moving at max MS...lol
Hm, where do I start.
1. Don't pick sniper, it's a useless hero which will not win you the game even if you have items.
2. See reason №1.
3. Oh yeah, don't pick sniper.
I have to agree, your main problem was you picked sniper.
But people are not telling you why that is the problem...
You needed a mid solo hero. While Sniper can lane well mid with high range and dmg and a great attack animation, he is not a good choice for mid because he is terrible at rune control and ganking. A hero that can control runes by flash farming and gank early will always be more effective mid than one that cannot. He is also a bad choice for mid solo because he is easy to dive and kill. He has a very weak slow and low hp, no real escape and even low move speed. Sniper is one of the easiest heroes to gank and kill diving the mid tower.
I agree with others here. Not sure if u know how to play sniper. Once u hit 6, harass him a bit, say 2/3 to 1/2 hp... use assassinate. if he's still greedy harass and finish off with ult. Your ult has cooldown of 20 seconds on first level. Not many noobs know how to play him and only resort the ultimate for the Killing shot. Imagine if zues never used "lighting bolt" to widdle down heroes, before "Thundergod's Wrath" he would never get the enemy low enough by auto attacks or chain lightening alone.
Also you gotta harass a melee in your lane anytime he comes for last hits. If he has no regen he shoulda made 2 fountain trips before level 6. If you are not last hitting you should be hitting him. At level 5 you tried that once but stopped. Usually by level 5 you harass him enough to use all his tangos and pot. Going dominator and switching to MoM was a wrong choice, unless u go dota 1 style with S&Y + basher. Once u hit 6-7, rotate out of lane and try to snipe off enemy on side lanes, usually in woods not walking casually into lane. Coordinating with friends can help u with this. Most noobs go boots into desolater in 30 mintues or less. My build is treads + crystalys + maelstorm before 30 minutes. If you doing good on kills and helping out you should get Daedalus by 40 mintues. Sniper is a hero that you have to establish that you do 3-5 shots and 300-500 crits before they get close to you. Once you do that, most people usually won't pick on you.
I wont say sniper is a bad hero. But da onli thing that matters when ure playin mid with any hero is ure last hits nd denies.
Even if u take mid with a support hero make sure u get ure items up fast to gank so that u can counter dere carry and not let him farm. and always carry a escape mekanism wid you since ure the mid hero ull be needing to stay away from deaths nd stay in the game for those big items which will make u win late game.
if u wanna try some other mid hero start watching some pro players style of farming and conc on ure last hits. When i say pro players i mean follow navi or lgd team players, etc not any random guy.
Rest depends on how good the other team is and how your team copes up with it.
Best of luck
Thanks all. I see some very constructive remarks. A bit more understanding of when not to pick sniper will probably help a lot.
I tend to do alright with sniper, but I wanted suggestions on this game as it was just soo one sided, and left me wondering what exactly I could have done better.
My last hits were pretty terrible that game, so I'm not arguing about that. I just couldn't get in the grove for that game. I also tend to have the highest denies in my games (for my bracket of course), but no reason to not continue focusing and improving on that. It feels great to keep the enemies in your lane a level or two below yourself through denies.
Pi Bond's tip seems pretty counter intuitive at first, but makes sense now I think about it. I openly admit I save snipes as finishing move... but using it to keep heroes out of lane does make a lot of sense. Will definitely try that!
My harass was pretty shocking. I was a bit distracted, at the time... but there is really no excuse.
On another note, I've had some pretty good support games recently... but more often than not... had a disappointing carry or three on our team. I need to pickup my game a bit more and break out of this losing streak. *_*
Fell below 50% ...
Any tips on good combo heroes? (for when I play with a friend) I like disable nuke combos. =P

Advice on what to do as the Dire team. I was sniper.

This is not an OMG look how one sided this game was. Yes, there was some scrubishness with DCs at start of game, but could I have done better to try and sway this kind of game (happens every now and again)?
I have to say that my early game LHs were atrocious... I kept missing them all and resorted to buying some branches to increase my damage a little bit. I probably should have also harassed the SB a bit more... but I was a bit pre-occupied looking at mini-map.
When the shit hit the fan, and I saw the other lanes crumbling, should I have tried to reinforce a lane?
I am genuinely interested because after just playing that game... I felt that I maybe could have done a bit more... but not sure what.
I picked sniper, because our team was lacking a mid-hero, and late game damage dealer (I think CK can deal some nice damage later... but due to him not being ranged, somewhat hampers his early game potential). Was there a better hero to pick against this line up?
Was this just one of those un-salvageable games?
