Experts less likely to look on the minimap? You're sample mean is so biased. Thats not how it works, most servers use mic a lot on very high skill brackets giving them good awareness instead of analysing the minimap situation. Some servers like south korea or SEA have a high prior on minimap coz players in such area aren't good enough to communicate orally.
The research is interesting towards camaraderie specially when they made a comprehensive video on this, gaming and human cognition aren't most psychosologist study these days, i guess there's gonna be a curve.

the conclusion that "gaming expertise studies can be done at gaming tournaments" seems pretty non-substantive. from a pr perspective, it might be nice to draw connections between gaming and science. we can pat ourselves on the back, but i'm not tricking myself -- it's for the entertainment.

@fsociety I think what they were saying in the article is that experts are less likely to second guess what they saw or do a "double take" when reading the mini-map. Which is why the preceded it with "experts can better discern abstract information".

@fsociety: It's "... they’re less likely TO LOOK BACK at the mini-map AFTER SEEING IT". But your mention on the abundant use of mic among high-skill-bracket players, which improve team communication, is worth consideration as a variable that might decrease the time a player needs to examine movements on the mini-map.

Feels like I just read an article on ScienceDaily.

@fsociety That's not what is says. It says they're less likely to look back at the mini-map after seeing it. Which might mean they can conclude more about the enemies movement patterns from one look that lower skilled players can. Of course, better communication can also influence this as you said.
