You can't "calibrate" into a higher medal. You don't get a medal officially assigned to you during your 10 placement matches, you just get tentative MMR, which, as Cookie showed through his documented smurfing, can change approximately +-250 each placement game.
If what you are referring to is getting promoted to a higher medal from a lower medal (Legend 1 into Legend 2 for example), then you definitely can. The exact numbers for medals aren't cut in stone, it seems to be a combination of your party and solo MMR up until Divine. Only solo MMR will allow you to advance medals in Divine.
