5k would have a new equivalent in the new medal system (e.g. it could be 4 medals 3 stars).

first you'd have to calibrate to that level. you'd play 10 games with other 5k players, from where you would calibrate up or down. Unless you really blow it, it's unlikely you'd go from the 5k equivalent to a 3.5k equivalent.
