yes it matters, along with your hero damage, structure damage, farm, stun/slow/silence/entangle/etc, warding, fight presence, aura contribution, reaction time, positioning, comparison to other players using the same hero, how much you contributed to the steam market, how much have you prayed to lord gaben, has he forgiven your sins, the weather, your soberness, your mother's permission for you to stay up late for calibration, and so many factors matter i cant list them all

My mmr is still low altho i have contributed so much to the steam market...
